Pontiff urges peaceful solution to crisis
Pope Francis has offered prayers for the victims of the Malaysia Airlines flights downed in Ukraine.
Having learned “with dismay” of the July 17 tragedy, the Pontiff “raises prayers for the numerous victims of the incident and for their relatives, and renews his heartfelt appeal to all parties in the conflict to seek peace and solutions through dialogue, in order to avoid further loss of innocent human lives,” a Vatican statement revealed.
Tensions remain high internationally around the incident which saw the crash of Flight MH17 from Amsterdam as it passed over Ukrainian territory held by pro-Russian rebels. The slow response from Moscow to deal with the response to the tragedy, coupled with accusations of rebel interference with the crash site and the bodies there has led to outrage among countries whose nationals died in the crash.
