Pope hails new Irish catechism

Pontiff presented with new catechism by Veritas Director

Pope Francis has expressed his hope that the new Irish Catechism for Adults will play a vital role in renewing the faith of Irish Catholics.

The Pontiff was presented with the book by Veritas Director, Maura Hyland at the Vatican late last week.

According to Ms Hyland, Francis expressed his hope that it would promote the work of adult faith formation throughout the Church in Ireland.

Honour

She described as a “great honour” the opportunity to present the Pope with the book. “I am delighted that Pope Francis has expressed his support for the work of adult faith formation that is taking place in Ireland,” she said.

The result of several years’ work, this catechism has been described as a call to renewal of faith among adults, at a time when people may be questioning whether the Gospel is still relevant.
