Pope Francis has thanked the authors of a new book published by The Irish Catholic which acts as a study guide to the Pontiff’s landmark encyclical on the environment.
Written by theologian Fr Eamon Conway and The Irish Catholic journalist Cathal Barry, Praise Be To You serves as a companion for readers of Laudato Si’ who are eager to unpack the Pope’s document and answer his radical call to tackle climate change.
Pope Francis was presented with a copy of the book during an audience with the authors in Rome last week.
Expressing his delight, the Pontiff thanked the authors when they explained their use of the ‘see, judge, act’ method to help readers better understand his challenging message.
Prof. Conway described as “humbling” his meeting with Pope Francis.
“It was humbling to be in the Holy Father’s presence, and to see how he makes time for everyone he meets. His priority at the audience, however, was the vulnerable and disabled, reminding us all of where our own priorities should lie,” he said.
Mr Barry said he was “deeply moved” by the experience.
“It was an incredible moment to meet Pope Francis in person having reported on his ministry since his election. I was deeply moved and honoured to have met him,” he said.
