Police detain 15 in acid attack probe

Tanzania – Police have detained 15 people after the latest acid attack by Muslim extremists left a Catholic priest seriously injured. Fr Joseph Anselmo Mwagambwa was attacked on the island of Zanzibar on September 13, the third priest struck in recent weeks.

Police, who have been hunting for acid attackers since the high profile attacks on two English girls who were undertaking voluntary wok on the island, moved to arrest a number of people suspected of holding extreme views.

Police stated that numerous litres of acid were also seized in the operation to detain the alleged attackers.
