Parish offers young people ‘faith on tap’

A new initiative in a Co. Tyrone parish is reaching out to people ‘where they are at’ by offering faith discussions in a local pub.

Fr Ryan McAleer and Bosco McShane of the Siolta Retreat team launched ‘Faith on Tap’, based on the ‘Theology on Tap’ programme popular in the US, in McAleer’s pub in Dungannon last week.

Co. Tyrone singer/songwriter Malachi Cush gave a testimony on his faith which was followed by a discussion around questions of life and faith, prayer, reflection and pizzas for the participants.

“In the past this type of event would be held in a parochial hall or chapel, but we wanted to go where people felt comfortable,” said Fr McAleer. “It was something different and people were curious, but there was also a real hunger to learn about faith and what the Church says.”

The next Faith on Tap is planned for March 12 in Dungannon parish. See www.facebook.com/siolta.retreats
