Commentators tied Renua to the Church

Former TD Billy Timmons has accused commentators of aligning Renua with the Catholic Church.

“For many, Renua was born out of the expulsion of Fine Gael members who voted against legislation for abortion. For my part it was a human rights issue,” Mr Timmons wrote in the Sunday Independent.

“Many commentators tied the decision to the Catholic Church and sought to paint Renua as such. As a result we were not short of enemies,” he said.
