Newry chosen as destination for international mission

Newry parish in Co. Down is to play host to a very new kind of parish faith mission in the run up to Christmas and to mark the new ‘Year of Mercy’. The mission will be given by some 20 international lay missionaries who are studying at the Emmanuel School of Mission in Rome. The students come from all over the world and are currently preparing for their nine-day mission in Newry.

The student missionaries will be hosted by local families and supported by a local team of parish volunteers and drivers. The parish is working with the missionaries in developing a full programme of activities to occur during their visit. The programme will include daily Church events, as well as outreach activities to schools, youth clubs, community centres etc. The missionaries will also be conducting home visits and especially to the sick and housebound. They will also be conducting ‘open houses’ at the homes of local parishioners, where all neighbours will be welcome.
