A new group for people who wish to take part in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem’s life without becoming a Knight or Dame has been approved by Pope Leo XIV. The group, called Friends of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, opens participation to all drawn to the Order’s spiritual aims.

‘Friends’ is open to not only Catholics, but “other Christians, people of other faiths and people of goodwill. Friends do not become Knights or Dames through the association”, said Dr Stephen Dorgan, Chancellor for the Order in Ireland.

The Chancellor explained that “In Ireland, Friends can make a one-off gift, arrange regular contributions, support an approved project, raise awareness, or join in prayer.” And that “The Irish Lieutenancy sends all contributions or donations to the Holy Land without administrative fees, while Friends receive updates about the Order’s work and projects.

“The programme offers a clear human-interest angle: how the people of Ireland can express practical solidarity with Christian communities in the places where Christianity began,” Dr Dorgan said.
