National Pilgrimage to St Brigid’s Shrine

81st annual celebration

The 81st Annual National Pilgrimage to St Brigid’s Shrine, Faughart, Co. Louth will take place on Sunday, July 6, commencing at 3pm.

Ceremonies will consist of procession with the Relic of St Brigid along the banks of St Brigid’s Stream, followed by Mass which will include Blessing of the Sick and a homily by Fr Thomas Griffin, IC, PP, who will preside, assisted by the curates of the parish.

Faughart is acknowledged as the birthplace of the saint and has been a place of pilgrimage for centuries. On Sunday, July 1, 1934, the Annual National Pilgrimage was instituted and the new shrine opened, attracting over 10,000 people for the occasion.
