National cookery challenge for missionary children Fundraiser

Cooking for a cause

A nationwide cookery challenge has been launched by World Missions Ireland as part of its drive to provide one million dinners for children in the developing world.

Opera singer Celine Byrne, popular Kildare GAA sports star Dermot Earley and RTÉ rugby pundit Brent Pope launched the initiative by Missionary Children, the children’s charity division of the missionary group.

The cookery challenge asks contestants to devise a dinner menu to feed a family of six for €5. Five finalists will then be chosen for a cook off in October, the traditional mission month.

Jackie Pallas, National Secretary of Missionary Children said: “While €5 may be a very limited amount for people in this country, despite our own economic difficulties, it is a lot of money for impoverished families in so many parts of the world.”

Recipes can be sent to  pr@wmi.ie or posted to World Missions Ireland, 64 Lower Rathmines Road, Dublin 6. For more information call 01 4972035. Closing date: September 26.
