The Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC) in Cork are expecting packed pews for their annual Light Up a Memory Mass on November 7 at the Sacred Heart Church in Cork.
Speaking to The Irish Catholic about the Mass, MSC Communications Executive Karen Moloney said the annual event is about “passing the flame of remembrance through generations” and remembering friends, families and memories “in a joyful way”.
She said the candlelit remembrance ceremony is a much loved tradition, with the Mass always being “very well-attended”, in person and online. The Mass takes place during MSC’s Novena for Holy Souls, which runs from November 2 to November 10. “November can be a very dark month, so it’s about spreading that light,” continued Mrs Moloney.
Mrs Moloney noted that this year’s ceremony will be extra special, as a screen will be displaying names of loved ones submitted for remembrance for the first time.
Additionally, she said MSC is “making it easier for those online and around the world to take part” with the introduction of an online portal where participants can submit a name of their loved one directly through the website rather than having to call the MSC office.
The day will also feature music from the Island of Ireland Peace Choir and special guest Irish Tenor Declan Kelly, who will perform after the Mass.
