Meath’s oldest priest dies

The death has occurred of the oldest priest in the Diocese of Meath, Fr Edward (Ned) Flynn, the retired parish priest of Ballinabrackey.

Fr Flynn died peacefully in Portiuncula Nursing Home Multyfarnham, Co.  Westmeath last Friday aged 99 years. He was born on January 4 1916 and celebrated the 70th anniversary of his ordination in 2011.

Fr Flynn’s appointments in Meath diocese included his role as Professor in St Finian’s College, Mullingar 1943-1960, curate in Dunsany-Kilmessan 1960–65, and Kells 1965–72; parish priest in Donore 1972–81;  in Ballinabrackey from 1981 until his retirement in 1995.
