Mayo priest’s Father Ted skit an online hit

A Co. Mayo parish priest has become an online hit after re-creating a classic scene from the Father Ted series to promote a fundraising pilgrimage.

Fr John Kenny of Partry parish decided to organise a Pedal Paddle Pilgrimage on May 21 to raise funds for Pieta House after the tragic death of a friend through suicide. It involves a cycle from Westport to Croagh Patrick, a climb to the summit for Mass and then paddling in Clew Bay at Murrisk Abbey.

In a video recreating a Father Ted scene where a parishioner questions if the priest is a racist, Fr Kenny stresses: “This is not a race”.

“The mountain is a place of pilgrimage but over the years it has become a place for racing and some treat the mountain like an obstacle course to run up and down,” he told The Irish Catholic. “I think the video is tasteful and fairly true to the original and it gave the whole event traction with people watching from all over world.”
