Knights prepare for Oliver Plunkett festival

Msgr James Carroll blessed six reliquaries containing small bone fragments of St Oliver Plunkett in a ceremony in St Peter’s Church, West Street, Drogheda.

The reliquaries were presented to members of the local council of the Knights of St Columbanus who will bring them to over 50 venues during the forthcoming festival of St Oliver Plunkett.

St Oliver’s relics will be exposed for public veneration at Eucharistic or prayer liturgies in churches, at Mass rocks, hospitals and nursing homes.

It is expected that over 5,000 people will participate in the festival over a six-week period, culminating in a procession in his honour in July.

The festival itself will commence on Saturday, May 30 in St Peter’s at 10.30am Mass.
