Boxing legend Katie Taylor, who stepped into the ring in Croke Park on Saturday September 5 with the words ‘Psalm 18’ embellished on her gear, has said she would not be able to fight without God in her life.
Taylor is a born-again Christian and, before moving to the US, where she currently resides with her husband, attended St Mark’s Pentecostal Church on Pearse Street in Dublin.
Taylor has previously described her faith as her “foundation”, and said that it is “more than positive thinking.” She explained that Psalm 18 “has become a mantra for me before fights. It’s a reminder that it is God that trains my mind for battle.” The boxer reported that she often recites parts of the psalm before and after her fights.
As well as paying reference to Psalm 18 at her final fight against France’s Flora Pili on Saturday, Taylor chose to walk out to the Christian anthem, ‘All Hail King Jesus’.
