Italy’s singing nun tops TV talent contest

Sr Cristina wins landslide victory

In a landslide victory last week, singing sensation Sr Cristina Scuccia won the hearts of her nation receiving 60% of the votes in the final of The Voice Italy.

Sr Cristina, a member of the Ursuline Sisters of the Holy Family, initially rose to fame when her audition video received worldwide attention on YouTube by gaining over 30 million views in the first seven days, making it the fastest growing YouTube hit ever.

Vocation

The 25-year-old from Sicily first took to the stage in the starring role of a musical staged by local nuns when she was 17. The following year Sr Cristina felt called to her vocation and two years ago she took her holy orders.

After accepting her trophy Sr Cristina gave thanks to “the man upstairs” and led the audience in the Our Father. Although she has won a contract with Universal Records, she is now concentrating on renewing her perpetual vows at the end of July.
