Commenting after Irish Aid published their 2025 Annual Report, which demonstrated Ireland’s leading role in overseas development aid, Trócaire CEO Seán Farrell said the organisation “remain[s] grateful to Irish Aid, Barry Andrews MEP, and Minister Neale Richmond’s continued support and commitment to our programmes.”
In a recent interview with this newspaper, Mr Farrell also cited the strong support of the Irish people as the foundation for Trócaire’s work and the broader work of humanitarian programmes like Irish Aid.
“We’re seeing the funding to Trócaire remain consistently high and we’re seeing the Irish Church really continue to support the work that we do tremendously.”
“The great thing is we have the teams in place, we have brilliant local partners across the world, we have strong capability around what we want to do and we’ve got the support here in Ireland both from the Irish Church and from the Irish government. So once we have that I think we continue to be able to deliver at scale.”
Mr Farrell recalled his visits to parishes across Ireland during Lent, and the generosity he sees in parishioners who come up to him after his talks. “I think there’s a huge generosity, a huge interest in the work that we do,” he continued.
The Irish Aid Annual report detailed the global impact of their programme, and reported that Ireland is now the eighth largest contributor of Official Development Assistance as a proportion of Gross National Income in the world.
