Homeless charity prepares for cold spell with ‘exceptional measures’

The Peter McVerry Trust will be using “exceptional measures” to offer shelter and extra resources for those living out in the street ahead of a period of severe and frosty weather that is going to heavily affect Ireland this week.

According to Pat Doyle, CEO of the Peter McVerry Trust, the extended precautions being taken include 24/7 accessibility to all residential services belonging to the McVerry Trust, a doubling of the Housing First Street Intake Supports, and the utilisation of The Dublin City Sports Centre as a location for the “overflow emergency accommodation capacity for the city”, he said.

He added that these safety measures will be maintained until at least Monday, when the situation will be reviewed.
