Msgr Amaury Medina Blanco, who has served Pope Francis as counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Apostolic Nunciature in Dublin the past three years left Dublin this week to take up a new appointment at the Apostolic Nunciature in Brazil. Thenew Deputy Head of Mission, Polish-born Vatican diplomat Msgr Piotr Tarnawski, is due in Dublin next month to take up his appointment. The Apostolic Nunciature – or Vatican embassy – serves as the Pope’s link to the local Church in Ireland as well as the Holy See’s diplomatic representation to the Irish State.
