A unique charity challenge

As part of Trócaire’s Lenten campaign, the charity is challenging people to come offline and give up social media for 24 hours.

The ‘Sign Up Sign Out Challenge’ takes place on March 7, and encourages everyone to stay off social media for a full day, and asks them to instead seek sponsorship and organise fundraising events for the charity.

The fundraising support will go towards people like Kumba (7) and her family, who lost their house and all of their belongings following a mudslide in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

To help you out, Trócaire are supplying stickers, posters, sponsorship cards, t-shirts and wristbands which can be collected and downloaded from their website.

Fears of diocese of Clonfert and Galway joining

Galway junior minister Ciarán Cannon has expressed concern over the possibility that the East Galway diocese of Clonfert could be amalgamated into Galway.

The diocese has been awaiting the appointment of a new bishop since Bishop John Kirby submitted his resignation almost five years ago. Minister for the Diaspora and International Development, Cannon has compared the situation to Galway Diocese, which saw its vacancy filled last December, after a wait of just 18 months. He said that the lack of news on the Clonfert position has led to worry among his constituents that the diocese will be amalgamated.
