Actor David Oyelowo has said his faith plays a major role in determining which films he accepts and which he turns down.
The British actor, known for his roles in Interstellar, Selma and Rise of the Planet of the Apes, said he prays before making his decision on a part.
“I’ve never regretted turning anything down. I think about it long and hard. I pray about it. It’s never a light decision.
“I don’t shy away from dark roles, but don’t gravitate toward films that glamorise or glorify darkness. I’m not interested in leaving audiences bereft of hope,” he said.
Mr Oyelowo said his religious beliefs have yet to create a barrier in Hollywood.
“People respect it, accommodate it and actually gravitate toward it. If it’s authentic, it’s what people admire,” he said.
