A small Catholic church in England had a celebrity surprise last week when Hollywood actor Mark Wahlberg arrived for Mass, fresh from saving the world in his latest blockbuster.
Currently filming the fifth instalment of the Transformers series in England, Wahlberg left the set to attend Sunday Mass at St Aidan’s Church in Seahouses.
Depth of faith
A devout Catholic, Wahlberg has spoken openly in the past about the depth of his faith and how he goes to a church to pray every day.
“That’s how I start my day,” he told an interviewer. “I like to get in there for about 15 or 20 minutes, say my prayers.”
His faith, he explained, was his route from a troubled youth not only to Hollywood success, but also stability in his family life.
“I pray to be a good servant to God, a father, a husband, a son, a friend, a brother and uncle, a good neighbour, a good leader to those who look up to me and a good follower to those that are serving God and doing the right thing.”
It has been reported from Hollywood that Wahlberg’s next role will be that of Fr Stuart Long in a biopic on the life of the famed boxer who, despite being struck with a degenerative condition, became a priest and inspired thousands.
