Cavan parish preparing for 150th anniversary

St Patrick’s Church, Milltown, preparing for its 150th anniversary in 2018

Parishioners gathered for a special ceremony in St Patrick’s Church, Milltown, Co. Cavan earlier this month to mark the end of the Year of Faith and the completion of phase 1 of the restoration programme on the village church in preparation for its 150th anniversary in 2018.

A statue of St Patrick was blessed by Fr Gerry Comiskey PP during a concelebrated Mass that had very active participation by children from Milltown Primary School. The statue, carved in Kilkenny limestone by Simon Carman, will be placed in the niche high up on the facade of the church.

In his homily Fr Enda Murphy, Director of Pastoral Services in the Diocese of Kilmore recounted the rich Christian heritage that belongs to the parish of Drumlane from the time of St Mogue, and parishioners were invited to sign a statement, to be placed in a little box at the feet of the statue of St Patrick in the bell tower, confirming their commitment to the Faith.
