Catholics in Dublin and Cork took part in ‘praying in the sea’ events in solidarity with people suffering from the impacts of climate change.
Members of seven Dublin Christian churches took part in an inter-church prayer event organised by Eco-Congregation Ireland (ECI) on Killiney Beach, Co. Dublin, while Sisters of Mercy from Pairc a Tobair were joined by local Catholics on Warren Beach, Rosscarberry, Co. Cork.
The worshippers joined in prayers, hymns and a Celtic lament to remember people both here and overseas who are affected by rising sea-levels, floods, droughts, poverty and famine caused by extreme weather events.
ECI is an inter-church project of the Irish Inter-Church Meeting that encourages Churches to take an eco-friendly approach to worship and lifestyle. For further information, see www.ecocongregationireland.com
