Cartoon made on life of popular Irish saint

A short amination film has been made based on the life of a popular Irish saint. The Monster & The Saint, which tells the story of how St Senan battled sea creature the Cathach on Scattery Island, is set to be premiered in Co. Clare this weekend.

The screenplay was written by Dermott Petty of BallyCartoon.

Mr Petty, who also directed the film, was commissioned by the author of the original story, Flann O’Keeffe.

Mr O’Keeffe, who grew up with the legend of St Senan banishing the Cathach to Doolough Lake, is a former missionary priest and holds an MA in theology and an MA in Freudian psychology from Brunel University, London. 

The actors include Gerry Howard (Fanore) and Gary Hetlzler (Ballyvaughan), with animation by James Nolan.

The world premiere of The Monster & The Saint will take place on Sunday, December 6 at the Community Hall in Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare at 4pm.
