Dear Editor, I thought my eyes were deceiving me when I read that some seminarians at Maynooth were censured because they were “too conservative” (IC 02/07/2015). I wonder should this have read “too truthful” because they were proclaiming the truth of the Faith?
I saw a documentary on Maynooth, long before the scandals broke there, and I was aghast that this was actually a place of formation for priests. The apostolic visitations which occurred during the wonderful Pope Benedict’s time as Pontiff were badly needed. Has there been some slippage there again I wonder?
Such irresponsible behaviour by whoever censured these good seminarians at Maynooth will empty the seminary there. Such young men who forsake the pleasures of this world to become priests do not do so to become pathetic Fr Trendys!
I suppose it is some consolation that the present Vice President of Maynooth has rejected a claim by an agency at the Vatican of all places that Maynooth is “too clerical”! (IC 23/07/2015). What is next I ask myself?
Yours etc.,
Joan Dooley,
Belfield, Limerick.
