Biblical Studies students graduate in Cork & Ross

Certificates awarded to inceptive students

Fr Charles Conroy presented certificates to 30 people from 13 parishes who became the first group from the Diocese of Cork & Ross to complete a two-year diocesan Certificate in Biblical Studies.

Cork Scripture Group was formed about three years ago to promote scripture in the Cork area. The voluntary committee consists of Lorna Downey, Fr Ben Hegarty OP, Marian Mortell, Phil Mortell and Fr Sean O’Sullivan.

Following a number of meetings, it was decided to run a two-year ‘Introduction to the Bible’ course.

The course consisted of four modules each of six weeks duration. It was supported by scripture scholars from the Cork area, including Msgr Ned Goold, Rev. Prof. Charles Conroy, Dr Siobhan Dowling-Long and Fr John Newman.

A second course is running in Dunmanway, West Cork. Another Cork course (based in Scala, Blackrock) will begin in spring 2015. With the blessing of Bishop William Crean, participants from Cloyne diocese are also welcome.
