Courtney McGrailOne of the most high profile stars of US basketball has credited his Christian faith in supporting him through lows in his playing career. Following a less than glorious season with the Houston Rockets, Jeremy Lin revealed that his failures had brought him closer to God.
“God has used all of these setbacks to slowly strip me of all my idols that compete for my attention,” Lin said during an interview. “He has gradually peeled away my pride, my selfish ambition and my self-centeredness.”
Lin also shared a Bible verse which he says inspires him to work harder at improving as an athlete: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and be courageous. Do not be afraid and do not be discouraged for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
Making no promises on his next sporting season, Lin said: “The one thing I can promise is that God’s bigger and better than anything that can happen.”
