Apostolic Nuncio visits Killala parish Archbishop Charles Brown

The Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Charles Brown recently made a weekend visit to Killala parish in Co. Mayo. He celebrated the Saturday vigil Mass to a packed congregation in the parish church, assisted by Fr Michael Harrison PP and invited priests. This was followed by a social function in the local community centre, where students from the local primary schools and St Patrick’s College, Lacken Cross provided music, song and dance, including musical contributions from the Killala Folk Group and the Ballina Quintet.

A number of presentations were made to the nuncio on behalf of Killala Pastoral Council and Killala Community Council (New Start), including a framed Irish Press front page revealing the date and year of his birth and a painting of the church.

Archbishop Brown celebrated Sunday Mass the next day for a large crowd who again assembled for a social gathering in Killala Pastoral Centre.

Michael Jordan, Chairperson of Killala Pastoral Council said “a great weekend was had by all”. “As the sun shone brightly on both days for the papal nuncio’s visit, it brought a sense of great joy and satisfaction and a good feeling to many people who attended the Mass and celebrations.”
