Abortion is ultimate violation

Abortion is ultimate violation

Dear Editor, It is my opinion that a baby in the womb should be fully protected by legal safeguards provided by our Constitution. I cannot reconcile myself with the pro-choice lobby that abortion can be seen as a sensitive intervention in cases of fatal foetal abnormality. When these situations arise perinatal hospice care is the most appropriate and holistic approach to care. Real compassion means protecting and cherishing these babies while supporting their parents.

Since the introduction of the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Act 2013 there has been a blatant and concerted drive by many sectors in Irish society to introduce more liberal abortion laws. It is imperative with the threat of the Eighth Amendment that the Pro Life Campaign keeps up its momentum and does all it can to win over hearts and minds. A medical abortion causes the deliberate stopping of a heartbeat and this is never acceptable and has to be the ultimate violation of human rights.

Yours etc.,

Hilary Ryan,
