A primer in modern Catholicism

The author’s name will be familiar not only from his articles in The Irish Catholic, but the lectures he has given in Dublin in recent years. This book seems to be aimed at exploring the myths and legends about the Church held by those who are not Catholic. But as many of these are held by many Catholics too, it serves as a primer for a basic course in modern Catholicism. The treatment is topical in both senses of that word. That is it deals with a set of distinct themes, but in an up-to-date manner. It might be said for instance that everyone ought to read his on 'the Church "outside the Church”', a reminder that in the fullness of meaning what people call 'the Church' is merely the hierarchy, and it is not the People of God. The essence of the book is summed up by the cover which shows not only a Latin Rite prelate in full canonicals, but his brothers in various Eastern Catholic Rites (some with married priests too).
