This year Knock Shrine is commemorating the 135th anniversary of the marian apparition. While the shrine is preparing for a major refurbishment of the basilica, Rector and Parish Priest Fr Richard Gibbons is celebrating Mass every day for 100 days for the Holy Souls.
A unique aspect of the story surrounding the apparition was the completion on August 21, 1879 of 100 Masses for the Holy Souls by Archdeacon Cavanagh, Parish Priest of Knock at the time.
In order to have “a powerful movement of prayer for our project and one which is unique to Knock” began saying daily Mass on May 14 and will complete 100 Masses at 8am on weekdays and 12noon on Sunday, concluding on the Feast of Our Lady of Knock, August 21.
