New chief executive announced in Rome
The newly-installed chief of the Institute for Works of Religion has promised to steer a more ethical course for the troubled body.
"Catholic, ethical investment will drive how we will be managing assets on behalf of our clients" said Jean-Baptiste de Franssu as he took the helm of the Vatican Bank last week. He replaces Ernst Von Freyberg, who has held the role since 2013.
The 51-year-old French businessman was announced for the Vatican Bank during a press conference in Rome on July 9 led by Cardinal George Pell, prefect of the Secretariat for the Economy, who has been leading Pope Francis’ reforms of the Vatican’s financial pursuits and structures.
Mr de Frenssu graduated from the ESC Group Business School in Reims, France and holds a BA in European Business Administration from Middlesex University in Britain. He also holds a postgraduate degree in Actuarial Studies from Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris. He is also a board member of the World Youth Alliance, a global coalition of young people committed to promoting human dignity and solidarity among developed and developing nations.
