Triple celebration in Dundalk

Triple celebration in Dundalk

A jubilee Mass in St Malachy’s Dominican Church, Dundalk, celebrated by Archbishop Eamon Martin of Armagh to mark 800 years of the Dominican order, proved a triple celebration.

Not merely did the Mass acknowledge the role of the Dominicans, who established themselves in Dundalk in 1777 from their 14th-Century base in Carlingford, in the area, but it provided an opportunity to recognise two distinct aspects of the thriving life linked with the Dominican community in the town.

Eileen Donnelly was presented with a Bene Merenti medal from the order in gratitude for her many years of service at the church, while 11 youth leaders from the Friary Youth Club,  who had earned but not yet received their John Paul II Award certificates, were presented with their certificates by Dr Martin.
