Some spectacularly spooky Halloween decorations to make

Halloween is coming and it’s time to start making decorations. These five Halloween decorations are fast and easy, so you will have your home looking spectacularly spooky in no time.

Folded bats: Draw half a bat on the back of some cereal card and cut out. Fold a piece of black card in half, place the template at the fold and trace around this. Cut out the bat, taking care not to cut the fold. Unfold the card and you have a whole bat. Make folds along the wings to give the bats a 3D effect.

Paper cut spider webs: These spider webs are similar to paper cut snowflakes. Make them in black or white or in Halloween colours such as orange, purple and green. Take an A4 sheet of card or paper and fold it in half, with the open edge facing up. Fold the bottom right-hand side up, to create a V point at the centre mark. Fold the left side of the paper as well and line up the edges. Trim off the excess to make a triangle. Fold the triangle in half so one edge is folded and the other edges are opens. From the folded side, draw the markings where you will cut. Draw curved lines close together so that the spider web is finer and then cut them out.

Floating ghosts: Use muslin cloth, lace, light white fabric or plain tissue. Place a polystyrene ball on top of a bottle and dot some glue on top. Place the cloth over this and leave to dry. With a black marker, draw the eyes and mouth onto the ghost. With a sharp needle, pierce the ball from the bottom and push through some fine thread to the top of the ghost’s head. Use this to hang up your ghost.

Spider lollies: Twist black pipe cleaners around lolly pops to create spider legs. Pop them in a cauldron for trick-or-treaters.

Cats’ eyes: There are some wonderful Halloween decorative lights out there, but you can transform basic fairy lights with a little imagination. Draw the outline of a cat’s head onto some card and cut out. Trace around this onto the black card and cut out as many cat heads as you need. Pierce two holes in each of the heads for the eyes. Poke the lights through the holes and switch on.
