Sisters reject claims over land transfer for hospital delay

The Sisters of Mercy have rejected claims that delays in transferring land in Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin for the National Rehabilitation Hospital are their responsibility.

The hospital was promised the site in 2009 as part of a State deal to increase compensation payments for abuses in religious-run institutions.

In a statement, the sisters said: “We are continually working with determination towards the completion of the transfer process of all items outlined in our contribution document of 2009.”

An informed source told The Irish Catholic that, “The transfer of the hospital being discussed at present is entirely in keeping with the offer made by the Mercy Sisters in the offer document of 2009. The Mercy Sisters are in no way responsible for the present delay.”
