Dear Editor, The letter from Seamus Flanagan (‘We need renewal, not reform’ IC 05/09/13), is tremendous, yet written in clear, simple language. I agree completely with him. That is the very heart of the matter.
Over the centuries the Church has been gradually choked. Whatever good reform brought, through councils, canon law, etc., has been gradually buried under mountains of red tape. I quote him: “What the Church needs is renewal. That means going back to Jesus….to live and think as He did.”
Pope Francis in his old black shoes is showing the way; the simple humility of the Son of God must be our bedrock. Let’s get rid of the trumpery.
