Pope meets families of Mafia victims

Pope Francis was set to meet with families of innocent victims of the Mafia this week during a prayer vigil for those killed by criminal violence.

The Vatican announced the Pontiff would travel to the Church of San Gregorio Magno in Rome on March 21 and meet with 700 family members gathered there for a prayer vigil on the eve of a memorial day for all innocent victims of the Mafia.

The event has been organised by the Liberia Foundation, which welcomed the Pope’s decision to attend as “a sign of attention and sensitivity [and] an attention to our fragile and wounded humanity”.
