Parishes asked to pray for end to bad weather

Cardinal Seán Brady sent a letter to all priests asking for prayers

The Primate of Ireland has called on parishes to offer solidarity in prayer to families who have suffered as a result of the recent severe weather conditions that have devastated many parts of the island.

With thousands of people still without power across the country due to high winds and concerns that additional rainfall poses a risk of further flooding of rivers with high water levels, Cardinal Seán Brady sent a letter to all priests last Friday asking them to include a “prayer for an end to storms or for fine weather” among Prayers of the Faithful at Mass.

Cardinal Brady said “a prayer for all who have suffered as a result of the storms would also be appropriate and welcomed by many”.

Meanwhile, the Catholic and Church of Ireland Bishops of Limerick have called for the public’s support for a flood relief fund established to assist the people of St Mary’s parish, one of the worst flood-affected areas in the country, by giving donations to their local parish to be passed on.
