Keith Duffy assured his mother that he would hand deliver her petitions to the grotto at Lourdes before embarking on a mammoth 550km cycle to the Marian shrine in the south of France.
The former Boyzone singer joined a group cycling from Limerick to Lourdes in Nantes to raise money for Cliona’s Foundation, a charity providing financial assistance for critically ill children.
Speaking to Ryan Tubridy on RTÉ Radio 1, the singer said he was really looking forward to experiencing Lourdes for the first time. “I’ve never been and I’m really looking forward to it actually. A lot of the lads are staying on for a week to help out in Lourdes pushing wheelchairs up and down from the grotto and stuff like that.
“My mother has been before and she gave me a handful of petitions that I was sworn to make sure that I bring them down to the grotto. They are in a very safe place in my bag that is not on the back of the bike but in the van so we are all good with that one,” he said.
