God’s word and not human thinking is the definition of marriage

Dear Editor, The Government proposes an ‘historic’ change to the Irish Constitution, which will redefine the age-old definition of marriage.

If approved by referendum, the amended definition will read: “Marriage may be contracted in accordance with law by two persons without distinction as to their sex.”

God’s definition of marriage as taught by Christ is: “Have you not read that the Creator from the beginning made them male and female. This is why a man leaves his father and mother and becomes attached to his wife, and the two become one flesh? They are no longer two, therefore, but one flesh. So then, what God has united, human beings must not divide.” (Mt.19:4)

St Paul advised the Thessalonians – and also the Irish – “Accept God’s word for what it is, God’s word and not some human thinking.”

Yours etc.,
