Town to recreate Passion in real time

Eager pilgrims from as far away as Germany and the United States are set to make the journey to the town for an epic re-telling of the Passion of Christ.

One of the most realistic Passion re-enactments Ireland has ever seen is about to put Pallasgreen, Co. Limerick, on the map as they prepare to welcome eager pilgrims from around the world.

Eager pilgrims from as far away as Germany and the United States are set to make the journey to the town for an epic re-telling of the Passion of Christ.

Passion 2014 recreates the final hours of Jesus’ life in real time from the agony at Gethsemane to his crucifixion. It will include the flogging of Jesus, a crown of thorns placed upon his head, as well as his trial with the High Priests and Pontius Pilate.

The event will take place at Easter in the Parish of Nicker, over a 24-hour period from Holy Thursday, April 17 to Good Friday afternoon.

The project is produced and directed by award winning actor and local man Eamonn Harty, with a team of approximately 40 people working on the project since last November.

Speaking to The Irish Catholic ahead of the event, Mr Harty said: “We have a dream to do something magnificent in a tiny little parish. This event is going to be as real as we can possibly make it.

“It’s going to be powerful. We are really going to connect with the audience. You think you are coming to watch, you think you are coming to listen but you are coming to live this. It’s going to be one very special day,” he said.
