Pro-lifers accuse media of ‘blatant’ bias

The Pro Life Campaign (PLC) has accused the secular media of being the “main driver” for abortion in Ireland and showing “blatant” bias on the issue.

The organisation is now planning to roll-out a major campaign to make supporters aware of what they describe as the pro-abortion stance of large sections of the media.

Writing in The Irish Catholic this week, PLC Deputy Chairperson Cora Sherlock warned that if anything has become clear over the last couple of years, “it is that the media is the main driver for abortion in Ireland”.

“In the past few months, however, it has become so blatant that we simply cannot afford to ignore it any longer,” she said.

Ms Sherlock made her comments as the PLC launched their new ‘33 to 1’ campaign challenging media bias.

According to the PLC, over a fortnight recently, 33 articles supportive of increasing access to abortion appeared in national secular newspapers in Ireland, with only one pro-life article published during the same period.

In response, the PLC is holding an event outside the Dáil on Wednesday, March 11, from 7-8pm.

“It will be the start of a campaign to take the message of media bias to every corner of the country. But the size of the turnout on the day is critical to the future success of the initiative,” Ms Sherlock said.

“Holding it on a weekday will involve sacrifices for some, but we are urging everyone to make that extra effort to be there,” she added.
