Pope consecrates the world to Mary

Pope Francis has consecrated the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. During Marian Day celebrations at St Peterís on October 13, which marks the anniversary of the final vision in Fatima in 1917, the Pope announced the consecration and called on the faithful to seek the intercession of the Blessed Virgin.

"As we continue our celebration of the Eucharist," the Pontiff said, "let us invoke Maryís intercession. May she help us to be open to Godís surprises, to be faithful to him each and every day, and to praise and thank him, for he is our strength."

Some 100,000 people attended the weekend consecration, which also saw the Pope bless the statue of Our Lady of Fatima, which had been transported to Rome on the Marian Day.
