Pop up shop brings message of mercy to shoppers Pope Francis

Weekend Dublin shoppers were recently introduced to Pope Francis’ message of mercy thanks to a team of parish volunteers working from a ‘Mercy pop up shop’.

A rota of parishioners spent a sunny Saturday working from a former hairdressers in the main shopping area of Ballyfermot as part of the ‘24 hours for the Lord’ initiative. The volunteers handed out 1,000 Mercy cards, along with rosary beads and medals, and about 60 petitions were filled out.

The project came from the cluster of the parishes of Assumption Ballyfermot, St Matthew’s Ballyfermot, Palmerstown, Cherry Orchard and Chapelizod, spearheaded by the two Ballyfermot parishes.

“We were very well received,” Fr Richard Delahunty PP, Ballyfermot Assumption told The Irish Catholic. “We were getting out on the street and trying to get the Faith and the message outside the Church building. All in all it was very positive.”
