Pop star Katy Perry in convent row with nuns

An unlikely row has broken out between pop star Katy Perry, the Archbishop of Los Angeles and a group of elderly nuns.

The singer reportedly wanted to buy the Los Feliz villa that served as the convent for the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Los Angeles. However, according to reports, the nuns chose to sell instead to restaurateur Dana Hollister for $15.5 million.

The Los Angeles archdiocese, on the other hand, led by Archbishop Jose Gomez, believes it has the rights to sell the property and wants to sell to Ms Perry for $14.5 million.

The archbishop claims he has signed documents from three of the nuns stating that he has the power to decide on a buyer, which two nuns who do not agree, Sr Rita and Sr Catherine Rose, say were signed under duress. A lawsuit over the dispute has now been filed and the archdiocese released a statement claiming the sale to Ms Hollister was unauthorised.
