Pope addresses Council for the Economy
The Pope has told the newly appointed members of the Council for the Economy that the work they will undertake in reforming the financial activities of the Holy See is of “great weight and importance”.
Addressing the 15 members of the council (comprising eight cardinals and seven lay people) as they gathered in Rome last weekend for the first official meeting of the body, Pope Francis stressed of the reforms to be undertaken: “We must not stray from this path. Everything, transparency, efficiency, everything is for this purpose. It is all for this.”
The Pope further reminded the council ñ coordinated by Cardinal Reinhard Marx – that its work would also aid the better service of the poor and needy who benefited from “Peter’s mission”.
“The work of the Council is of great weight and importance, and will offer a fundamental contribution to the service performed by Roman Curia and the various administrations of the Holy See,” Pope Francis said.
