Charity calls public called to donate toys for Christmas
JRS Ireland has launched its 30-day Christmas toy appeal for children living in the direct provision asylum seeker accommodation system.
The charity says Christmas can be a particularly challenging and lonely time of year for families living in direct provision, and with asylum seekers prohibited from seeking employment, parents can struggle to provide toys for their children.
JRS Ireland hopes to collect toys for nearly 400 children in six direct provision centres.
All donated toys, unless there is a risk that they could be upsetting for some children (such as toy soldiers) are delivered to children aged up to 12. Financial donations are used to cover the cost of additional toys and vouchers for teenagers living in direct provision.
Unwrapped toys can be donated until December 17.
