Fr Iggy to receive Drogheda award

Fr Iggy O’Donovan to get Freedom of Borough of Drogheda for contribution to town

The Drogheda Borough Council has elected to award the Freedom of the Borough of Drogheda to Fr Iggy O’Donovan on October 24, in recognition of his contribution to the town.

The proposal was first made by Mayor of Drogheda, Cllr Richie Culhane, who said Fr Iggy had been involved in “many community and charity organisations in his time here, and never really received much recognition”.

Fr Iggy was based in the town for 12 years before his recent controversial transfer to Limerick and over 1,000 people attended his final Mass in Drogheda last month. He is currently taking a sabbatical.
